On Friday September 11th 2015 on United States Patriot Day, UMMAF partner charity Little Patriots Embraced (LPE) recognized local area military kids at their Hitting4Heroes event at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri.
LPE serves military families across the country, with a special focus on children, as they face the emotional stress of separation, deployment and post deployment issues. The charity has served over 52,000 military children and thousands of families over the past eleven years.
The United States Mixed Martial Arts Kick International Federation (UMMAF) has partnered with Little Patriots Embraced to provide a martial arts educational training program for families at military bases and Veterans of Foreign Wars facilities across the USA.
UMMAF is to provide certified instructors to implement non violent, anti-bullying training for youth, adults and educators stationed on US installations. The training will encompass physical conditioning and Fit for Life programs focused on the disciplines taught in MMA to include wrestling, grappling, boxing, Brazilian jiu jitsu, as well as nutrition, for health and fitness.
Matt Hughes, nine time UFC Hall of Famer and board member of UMMAF, along with Frank Trigg, UFC Hall of Fame member, have fully endorsed the program created by the UMMAF to support military families.
The Youth Project was introduced for the first time as part of the Patriot Day celebration held by LPE in St Louis. The event was held in honor and to give thanks to over 60 local military children for their service and sacrifice. A number of these children have a parent who has been wounded in service. LPE recognized the children by honoring them on the field with a special medal.
Celebrities attending the event included musician Clayton Jones of the Madison Letter, a St. Louis native who is now pursuing his dream in Nashville who performed a private acoustic concert for the military families. UFC Hall of Famer and former MMA athlete, Frank Trigg was in attendance, as was fellow UFC Hall of Famer and then time UFC World Welterweight Champion, Matt Hughes. Missouri state representative, Randy Pietzman, and radio and TV personality, Jamie Allman also made an appearance.
